Short Film: Burgindie Pictures Director: Barrett Burgin
A coming-of-age Mormon comedy short about a young man keeping a secret.
I was pulled in to develop the environments and atmosphere for the characters. We decided early on to adopt a more thematic approach to our sets, focusing on the tone of the scenes over period-correctness. This opened the door to a lot of interesting set dressing, graphics, and really elevated the humor. We found ourselves looking at old LDS materials and asking "Does this speak to the themes we're approaching in this environment?" And I just love being able to do that. As much as I love digging into the historicity of set elements, I really enjoy the freedom of throwing period out the window in favor of theme. We even roped Mormcore into helping us develop a MormonAd, an essential piece of Mormon kitsch. We managed to pull this one together and shoot it over a weekend. It's still in edit, so more to come...
